A Day At The School
The day begins with calm and stability. Children arrive in a safe space and have a little time to settle in, connect, and feel part of the group.
The morning routine includes gentle breathing and movement exercises, helping body and mind wake up in balance. This is followed by the morning circle, where children share thoughts and feelings, listen to one another, and organize the day together with the teachers.
Learning with Purpose
Our curriculum follows the Greek Ministry of Education framework (language, mathematics, science, geography, environmental studies), but our approach is interdisciplinary and based on projects (project-based learning).
Children do not learn in isolation. They work on real questions and thematic units that connect different subjects and relate to real-life contexts. Whenever possible, projects are connected to the challenges and realities of our island community, encouraging children to think critically, propose solutions, and understand their role as active citizens.
For example, a project about water might include:
-
science experiments,
-
mathematical measurements,
-
creative writing,
-
artistic expression,
-
environmental awareness.
Learning extends beyond the classroom. Guest mentors and local professionals may be invited to share knowledge and experience, offering children meaningful contact with different fields of expertise and real-world perspectives.
Lessons are interactive and often take place in small groups. Children actively participate, ask questions, experiment, and collaborate. Learning becomes a process of discovery and creation — not passive memorization.
Theater and visual arts are systematically integrated into learning, fostering imagination, self-expression, confidence, and teamwork. Art becomes a way to understand the world, not merely a “break” from other lessons.
Bilingual Education
Our school is bilingual. Children learn to speak, read, and write in both Greek and English.
Language is not treated as a separate subject but as a tool for communication and thinking. Through discussions, reading, creative writing, and projects, children gradually develop fluency and confidence in both languages, enhancing cognitive flexibility and cultural awareness.
Three-Class School – Mixed Ages
The school operates in three age-based groups:
-
1st & 2nd grade
-
3rd & 4th grade
-
5th & 6th grade
The maximum number of children per group is 18. Each group is supported by a lead teacher and, when needed, additional educational staff.
During the day, activities are organized where different ages interact with one another.
The mixed-age structure offers significant benefits: younger children are inspired by older ones, while older children develop responsibility and leadership skills by supporting and explaining to peers. This fosters a culture of collaboration rather than competition, allowing each child to progress at their own pace.
Daily Movement & Connection with Nature
Movement is a central part of the daily routine. Every day includes organized physical education, cooperative games, and movement activities that enhance coordination, strength, and confidence.
Children also spend daily time in the school yard and garden, caring for plants, observing changes in nature, and enjoying free play.
Field trips to the forest or beach take place regularly throughout the week, connected to specific projects or thematic units.
Community & Reflection
During the day, children have time for meals and rest in a calm and organized environment. The school encourages healthy eating habits and an understanding of food as part of education.
Fresh fruits and vegetables, often from the school garden, may be included as snacks or accompaniments, supporting experiential learning about cultivation and seasonality.
The day ends with a closing circle, where children reflect on what they learned, what challenged them, and what they discovered about themselves.

A day at our school combines academic learning, movement, arts, and connection with nature.
Not as separate pieces — but as a unified learning environment rooted in meaning, joy, and collaboration and a growing ability to contribute thoughtfully and responsibly to the community we are part of.
