LEARNING TOOLS

Interdisciplinary Learning

What if your child learned language through the arts, geometry through outdoor exploration, or history through theatre and play?

Interdisciplinary learning is an educational approach that connects different subjects into meaningful, real-life learning experiences. Instead of teaching subjects in isolation, children explore themes that naturally combine language, mathematics, science, arts, movement, and history.

At our school, learning is organised around thematic units. Teachers collaborate across disciplines, creating a coherent and creative learning environment where knowledge is connected and alive. Children don’t just “learn” concepts — they experience them.

For example, language learning may take place through visual arts, storytelling, or performance, allowing children to express ideas, emotions, and narratives while developing creativity and communication skills. Geometry might be explored outdoors, where children measure, observe, and calculate shapes and proportions in their real environment — the school building, the garden, or the surrounding landscape.

Embodied Learning

Learning Through the Body

Movement is a vital part of learning. Through physical activity, children develop strength, coordination, confidence, and a strong connection between body and mind.

At our school, movement is not a break from learning — it is learning. Through sports, free movement, martial arts, dance, yoga, and mindful practices, children build fundamental motor skills while also learning cooperation, perseverance, focus, and goal-setting.

Mind–body practices such as yoga and tai chi support emotional balance and self-regulation. By integrating these practices into daily life, children learn how to manage stress, stay present, and listen to their bodies.

Whether through team sports or individual practice, embodied learning teaches resilience, adaptability, and self-confidence. Children learn to face challenges, navigate setbacks, and celebrate progress — skills that support both academic learning and life beyond school.

Play as a Pathway to Learning

At our school, play is a central pathway to learning. Learning happens through free play, but also through playful, engaging learning activities intentionally designed by teachers. Play makes learning interesting, meaningful, and joyful.

Through play, children explore, experiment, imagine, and take initiative. Teachers use play-based methods during class time to support understanding, curiosity, and participation, transforming learning into an active and engaging experience.

Play supports the development of social skills, emotional resilience, creativity, and critical thinking. It invites collaboration, negotiation, and problem-solving, while allowing children to express themselves freely.

Children also have an active role in shaping their learning environment, co-creating values, rules, and ways of working together. When learning feels playful and alive, children feel motivated, confident, and deeply engaged.

Learning Through Art

Art as Expression, Exploration, and Connection

Art is not only about creating beautiful objects — it is a powerful way of thinking, communicating, and understanding the world.

Through artistic processes, children develop creativity, confidence, imagination, and emotional expression. Art supports cognitive, emotional, social, and ethical growth, while strengthening observation, experimentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

By working with materials, textures, shapes, and colours, children make sense of their environment and inner world. Artistic exploration nurtures curiosity and flexibility, helping children feel comfortable with change and transformation.

Collaborative art projects encourage responsibility, respect for diversity, and appreciation of each child’s uniqueness.

As Picasso said:
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

Outdoor & Sustainability Education

Learning with Nature, Caring for the Earth

Outdoor & Sustainability Education brings learning beyond the classroom walls, transforming gardens, neighbourhoods, forests, and natural landscapes into spaces of exploration and learning.

Learning outdoors supports both cognitive and social-emotional development. Children are often calmer, more focused, and more engaged in natural environments. Contact with nature reduces stress, encourages movement, and nurtures curiosity and freedom.

At the same time, children develop a relationship of care and responsibility toward the natural world. Through hands-on experiences, they learn about sustainability, ecological balance, and environmental protection.

By observing nature, caring for plants, managing resources, and reflecting on human impact, children develop environmental awareness and respect for life. Outdoor & Sustainability Education invites children to learn with nature and for the future.

Intercultural Education

A Garden of Diversity

Boschetto means “the small garden before entering the forest.”

Just like a garden where many forms of life coexist, our school community is shaped by cultural, linguistic, and personal diversity. Each child and family brings their own stories, languages, traditions, and experiences.

At Boschetto, differences are welcomed and valued. In a fertile and supportive environment, new knowledge connects with lived experience, allowing children to grow their skills, confidence, and sense of belonging.

Diversity reminds us of our uniqueness, while cultivating empathy, cooperation, mutual respect, and shared responsibility. Our community functions as a living ecosystem, where learning emerges through connection and dialogue.
